Christ has risen! So how should we now live?
Enjoy this great, short video.

In Light of Christ's resurrection, isn't it interesting what our M&M (Memorization & Meditation) passage of Ephesians 2:6-10 says?!  Let's use our SOS (Study, Obey, Share) approach to this passage. After reading it over a few times, please post re. the following-
1. Share one golden gem you gleaned from your digging in Eph.2:6-10.

2. Please enrich me with a verse that captured your attention from our daily readings from either Philippians, Colossians or 1 Thessalonians.

The following are simple Yes or No questions.
3. Have you intentionally sought to influence your wealth partner recently? (You could even send him/her the above youtube video before answering :)
4. Have you ever completed the Blue Book? (This fill-in-the-blanks booklet covers repentance, faith and baptism.)
5. Have you ever taken anyone through the Blue Book?
6. Have you ever completed the Green Book? (It covers 6 healthy habits of growing believers)

Announcements & Reminders

We started reading 1 Thessalonians on the 19th. What a great, short book!
We will begin reading 2 Thessalonians on the 24th. Both 1st & 2nd Thessalonians mention the end times in nearly every chapter. Hmm, I wonder why?

Keep reviewing Eph.2:6-10 and you'll have it down by our next NGL leadership training meeting- Sunday, May, 4th at 11:30 in the break room. Please call me as soon as you can quote it. (It's far more valuable than the 200 points that goes with quoting it.)

I'm so enjoying your blog posts. Keep up the good work! (100 points if posted by Thursday nights.)

Speaking of our blogs, next week's blog will be on our monthly theme- God's holiness as we focus on the Holy Spirit- our power for living our resurrection life.

Remember what the goal is- spiritual maturity or Christlikeness. We pictured this as a never-ending circle of dependence and devotion to God and a triangle of Christlike character, caring relationships and kingdom contributions.

From my wealth catcher to yours- "The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others are your legacy."

  1. 1. Ephesians 2:8 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this it is a gift of God" This is pure gold. By faith alone we have Gods grace over us. Its like pastor Mark said today, nothing makes you right with God except believing and having faith in what Jesus did for all of us and having faith that he is lord of our lives, and this is what saves you for eternity.

    2. 1 Thessalonians 2:13 "And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe." I think this is really important because when reading the bible we have to remember it is not just another book with good advice but Gods holy word with the ONLY advice you need.

  3. 1. Verse 10, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." Idleness is not what God intended for me. There is always something for me to do for Him. They are a privilege to do for they are from God. Be careful in your attitude when you do the "small" things, they might be the very thing God sent for you to do. There are things for me to do that only I am best fit to do. Others may do it, others may be better, but there is a specific assignment that if I don't obey, I will miss out on working with God. He is able to complete without me, but adding me do it is a ministry to draw me closer to Him.

    2. Colossians 1:13 and 14, "For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."
The word "transfer" changes from a word to a heart gripping reality.
This is what I looked up:

    1) to transpose, transfer, remove from one place to another
1a) of change of situation or place
1b) to remove from the office of a steward
1c) to depart from life, to die
After removing 1, I am put out 1, remove 1, transferred 1, turned away
from 3326 and 2476; to transfer, i.e. carry away, depose or (figuratively) exchange, seduce:-put out, remove, translate, turn away. see GREEK for 3326 see GREEK for 2476

I am blessed to be gouged out of darkness and placed in eternity with Him!

  5. 1. Verse 10 says, "For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." There are two things that are standing out to me in this verse. The first is that "we are God's handiwork". I believe that that is very important to think about because it is a reminder of who the center of all of our good deeds should be around. It is an indication of what we do good deeds for and who drives us to doing good deeds. The second point is that "...works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." This, I believe, emphasizes the idea of patience. Sometimes we are so caught up in our abilities and talents that sometimes we forget that we are working on God's schedule and not ours. This verse shows us that God will have a time and place for us to do good deeds. Hence the word "will". With that being said, we are we so impatient if it's a guarantee. Again, God shows us that patience is key to a successful and faithful ministry for God.
    2. Colossians 1:15 is well put. It is just beautifully explained by saying, "The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation." I simply think this verse is very powerful and straight forward. Sometimes people miss the uniqueness of Jesus and do not realize that He was heaven sent and 100% man, 100% God. There were many miracle workers and, like today, many people who do good deeds, but the Gospels show us Jesus' uniqueness and 100% godly qualities. This verse is just great because it reminds me that Jesus is more than a man.

  6. 1. Verse 6 - And God raised us up in Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus...

I have recently finished a book entitled, "Sit, Walk, Stand," by Watchman Nee. I highly recommend it to everyone. It is a great overview of the book of Ephesians in which Nee talks about the spiritual truths concerning our Christian life. He breaks up the book of Ephesians into three parts, sit, walk, stand. Sitting with Christ, walking as Christians in the world, and standing up to satan.

Early on in Ephesians Paul reminds us who we are in Christ and the position we have. We have a powerful position of privilege in Christ Jesus, not because of anything we have done or do, but because of what Christ has done. When we come to Christ in faith, we need to understand that it is all DONE. It is important that we learn to rest in Christ and the victory that He has accomplished through the workings of the cross. When we look at verse 6 of Eph. 2, I believe it talks specifically about our position and identity in Christ. God raised us with Christ and seated us next to him in the heavenly realms, meaning that we are seen just as God sees Christ, as a co-heir to the glorious riches of God's eternal kingdom. And we receive this by faith, but not because of anything we have done, but only because of what Christ has done on the cross and through his resurrection.

When we learn to rest and understand in the finished work of Christ and what he has accomplished for us and what that victory entitles us to, it is a eye-opening life altering revelation. One that I believe can impact our Christian walk in a very powerful and humbling way.

“Most Christians make the mistake of trying to walk in order to be able to sit, but that is a reversal of the true order. Our natural reason says, If we do not walk, how can we ever reach the goal? What can we attain without effort? How can we ever get anywhere if we do not move? But Christianity is a queer (weird) business! If at the outset we try to do anything, we get nothing; if we seek to attain something, we miss everything. For Christianity begins not with the big DO, but with the big DONE. Thus Ephesians opens with the statement that God has ‘blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ’ (1:3) and we are invited at the very outset to sit down and enjoy what God has done for us; not to set out to try and attain it for ourselves.” (Watchman Nee, 1957. Page 2).

    1. 2. Philippians, Colossians and the other epistles talk about living a life worthy. Phil.1:27 " Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ..."
Col. 1:10 " so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God."

Going back to my last point in the previous question, when we rest in the presence of God and truly acknowledge what he has done for us, "increasing in the knowledge of God," we can then WALK in a manner worthy of the Lord. But we must first rest. Understanding that by grace we are saved, and in the position that we are in. Understand that it is not by our own efforts, but the power of the indwelling of Christ's spirit in us.

I just like Paul's encouragement in Philippians 2:14-16 about how we are to walk so that we can shine for Christ and His glory.

14 Do all things without grumbling or questioning, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labor in vain. (ESV)

And again here in The Message version:

14 Do everything readily and cheerfully - no bickering, no second-guessing allowed! 15 Go out into the world uncorrupted, a breath of fresh air in this squalid and polluted society. Provide people with a glimpse of good living and of the living God. Carry the light-giving Message into the night 16 so I'll have good cause to be proud of you on the day that Christ returns. You'll be living proof that I didn't go to all this work for nothing.

And it is not us who can do any of these things, but it is only God, "for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure."

  7. 1. This verse is amazing because “workmanship” also means work of art and masterpiece that Christ is creating His children to be. Especially, since we were at one point dead/set apart in our sins and transgressions (Eph. 2:1). Yet because of His grace and love He saved us, making us a masterpiece (Christ-likeness!) in order for others to see His work of art. While others in this society and world wouldn’t take the time that Jesus has taken in pulling us “out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand” (Psalm 40:2).
Christ doesn’t stop at making us His work of Art but he prepares and has prepared good works to do (Kingdom contributions!). These good works aren’t to get saved (Ephesians 2:8-9), but they are there to show Christ our gratitude for the salvation He has given us and work of art He is making us become!

2.I couldn’t do one verse but I needed the context of a section because I am far from being like Christ, but this is what we ought to strive for by like minded in Christ (Christ like Character!)
    Philippians 2:1-11
“Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in very nature[a] God,
    did not consider equality with Godsomething to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
    even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”

  8. 1) Ephesians 2:6
And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.
First I thank God for His all surpassing power and mercy for the glimpse of thought of us being resurrected with Jesus.
That through Christ and in Christ we deny thyself(daily surrender), pick up the cross (walking that narrow road) follow Christ (counting the costs of a follower, & having Jesus as my lord and savior) we are assured being made alive in Christ and by God's grace we will receive eternal salvation.
Not only that, God does not stop there but he gives us a seat with Christ in the heavenly realms. Just let's me know that God thinks of me as royalty. Thank you God for you unfathomable love.

    2) I believe God gave me the gift of servanthood and this passage hit home. Philippians 2:3-4  Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. The word "humility" in American Dictionary mean a disposition to be humble; a lack of self pride. In the Concise Bible Dictionary means a personal quality in which an individual shows dependence on God. True ex: Jesus Christ, and I pray that not just my outward appearance shows that, but starts with inward.

  9. 1. Ephesians 2:8
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God"

This verse reminds us that we have been saved by our Lord and as long as we have faith in him we will continue to be saved. It also reminds us that if it wasn't for God we wouldn't be here, this is the gift that he has given us. The gift of life and being able to live eternal life with him is his Kingdom.

    2. Philippians 4:13
"I can do all this through him who gives me strength"

This verse means a lot to me and has not left me because everyday that passes by i remember that with God anything is possible. Today I had the encouragement to take out my Driver License and I reminded myself that with God I will pass the three exams and as I prayed and had faith, everything came out excellent. God gives me the strength to wake up everyday. He is amazing, the things he has done and does are just speechless.

  10. 1) Eph 2:6 “And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.”
I love this verse because it assures my heart that God is able to finish the good work he started in me. By the power of the resurrection, God has delivered me from my old sinful nature. He graciously clothes me in his righteousness and covers me with his love in so much that, in Christ, I am seated with him in the heavenly realms - in victory.
Eph 1:19b-21, “The power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at the right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness in him who fills everything in every way.”

    2) 1 Thess 5:23-24, “May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.”

  13. 1.My gem from Ephesians 2:6-10 is verses 8-9 which I memorized as a third grader in Awana. “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith not by works so that no one can boast.” Again, I have a lot of family members who are blinded by the Catholic faith. I also have a lot of friends who do not believe there is a difference. It is a dangerous place to believe you are “saved” when in reality you have not put your faith in trust in our Savior. This verse really hits home. Just this week I have been given several opportunities to explain the gospel using this verse. I am so thankful that God clearly explains this. There can be no question about where our salvation comes from.
2.A verse I would like to share from my readings in 1 Thessalonians is 5:8 “But since we belong to the day let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate and the hope of salvation as a helmet.” This is contrasting the verse before which describes the lifestyle of darkness. We can see the stark contrast between the two lifestyles. I know this is an area I have even struggled with when it comes to how the Christian lifestyle should look to others. What we find continually through our readings is that we are to look RADICALLY different. If people can’t tell that there is something strange about you, something in your life that makes you different then we need to take a harsh look at our lifestyle and question if we are exercising self-control, protecting our hearts with faith in the authority and truth of God’s word and our Father’s love. We may need to question what we are putting our faith in for our salvation. Is it the death and resurrection of our Father? This would spur us to actively seek a relationship with Him. Or is it the futile hope in our good works out measuring our bad works? This prompts a lifeless religion.

  14. Ephesians 2:6 "And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus," I love the fact that it says we have been raised up in Christ and seated with him. He is with us. He didnt just die and rise up again to just leave us.This verse shows that we are held to a higher standard. Just because we can not see him, doesn't mean he's isn't right beside us watching our every move.
Philippians 2:14 "Do everything without grumbling or arguing," I felt so convicted by this. There are so many times when I asked God "why?" when He wants me to do something instead of just saying "Ok". Not that we have doubt but just that are still sinners And struggle with surrounding to God and thinking of Him first rather than ourselves. I'm sure we all, definitely me, just need reassurance from God to know that He is still with us.

  15. 1: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Eph 2:10) The Lord made us to do something! He saved us not just to enjoy life but to make a difference. This verse implies that the Lord already created those works and they are waiting for us, at just the right time, to complete them.
This reality gives us a real sense of responsibility. If we fail to do these works we will be ashamed when we stand before the Lord. On the other hand, we can have confidence that the Lord has a purpose for us and every day has significance and meaning.
2: “For what is our hope, our joy, or the crown in which we will glory in the presence of our Lord Jesus when he comes? Is it not you? Indeed, you are our glory and joy.” (1Thess 2:19-20) Paul is telling the believers in Thessalonica that their lives are tremendously important. The point of the church is to make disciples, not just have services and programs. Changed lives for the glory of God is what it’s all about.

  16. 1. Eph (ESV) 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast." This verse does two things for me: it reminds me that I am going to heaven as a gift from God and not solely by the good deeds I do and it reminds me that because I am a sinner I am on "even ground" with the rest of man. Through this I need to get it through my head that I, myself, am not special but flawed and that it is through the life and works I do in Christ's name that make me different.

    2. Colossians (ESV) 4:6 "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." This is a great verse that reminds us to speak in kindness and to be experienced with the Word to be prepared when opportunity presents itself. This verse speaks powerful truth about preparing oneself because just your words influenced by the Holy Spirit can plant a seed leading to one's salvation. I came back to this verse after a conversation this week when my biology teacher approached me a couple days after a test and, because of my performance, stated that he was confident that I would be one to "defend evolution at a dinner table discussion"! I thank God for the brief chance I had to talk about God the Creator of all things to my teacher!

  17. 1. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Our memory verse is a great example of the state of man’s affairs, and what God needed to do to right that ship. Pride. The essence of so much wrong in this fallen world. Pride set apart Lucifer from the other Angels, putting him on a path of collision with the Almighty. On a more personal level, pride is what would make man think he is okay, or if not, that he could at least come up with a way to work himself out of this mess. God takes that pride and makes sure to put it in its place, telling us not once, but twice in 10 verses that we did NOTHING to deserve this salvation. We are alive because of a gift…..That we should never once boast about a feat that we did not accomplish.

As I read through the passage, the Final verse was of special note. The language used….“which God prepared in advance for us to do.”. I wondered why that was added at the end. Then I realized….the issue of pride. Had we been left to our own devices, even while living in Christ, if we did good works in the Lord’s name, we would still be susceptible to Pride:

“Look what I did, God. Good thing you have me on your team, huh?”

The last portion of Verse 10 eradicates this argument. Even the good we do, has been set in motion by God, planned out in advance by our glorious father. We didn’t seek it out, it sought us. We didn’t need to build up the strength or know-how to accomplish the task, God provided just the right mix we needed to get the job done, if we are willing. It is comforting to think, when a test of our faith or walk comes our way, that God has already been there. With this in mind, knowing God Saved us > Provides for us > Prepares works for us, the response instead can become:

“Thank you Lord, for allowing me the fulfilling experience of being a part of your handiwork.”

No more pride, looking, searching….Just the joy of driving through life, with God at the wheel.

    2. Colossians 1:21-22 “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation— “

In keeping with the theme of the Ephesians 2:1-10, I loved the language coming from the above passage in Colossians. Looking into scripture, and finding the subtleties of God come alive is always an enjoyable experience. Things become all the more new as you read and dissect the Word. “[You] were enemies [of God] in your minds because of your evil behavior”. The revealing of God’s heart towards us. God hates the sin, but loves us. We were not his enemies, when we were dead in our transgressions, but instead he continued to love us at our darkest:

Romans 5:8 “ But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

It is only in our own minds that we felt we were enemies of God. Sin has a way of doing that to us, to make us feel so far from God, he would surely hate us. So we become, instead, hard hearted to Him. Nothing can be further from the truth. While the Lord will have no part of our Sin, he will take your heart, if it is ready and humbled before Him, and breathe in it New Life. God wanted a relationship with us even in the midst of our worst sin, and will stand for us always, continually faithful. In this case, we must always refute the lie that we are enemies of God when we fall. Our only enemy in this case, is “The Enemy”.

    3. Yes, but I have not been as consistent as I would like. Definitely sent him that Video though ;)

    4. Yes, I went through the Blue Book prior to Baptism.

    5. No, I have not. The only person I have mentored had already completed the Blue Book, so I was taking him through the Green Book. Looking forward to my first time taking someone through the Blue Book.

    6. Yes, I went through the Green Book immediately upon completing Blue.

  18. 1. Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—“
“…Through faith…” As I read this verse I was reminded of the faith I received that changed everything for me, that faith being a gift that truly freed me to believe. This verse serves as a reminder that as I continue to grow in the knowledge of who he is through his presence and blessings, it has all been because of his grace and a work of his and never because of anything I have done or ever will do.

    2. Colossians 1:4-6 4 “…because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— 5 the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel…” Faith and love spring forth from hope found in Christ, ultimately from our relationship with Him.
